Physical Education Program

Physical Education is one of the most important parts of a child’s curriculum. How your child treats his/her body will affect them for a lifetime. The physical education program strives to teach students about the need to properly exercise, eat nutritious food and demonstrate good sportsmanship at all times. The benefits gained from these activities will not only be realized now with strong bodies that are ready to learn, but also instills in them the habits needed to live a healthy life beyond their school years.

These objectives are met through the learning of skills and playing team sports, various physical fitness activities- such as fun runs and circuit training, along with a number of health lessons. Physical education is a time for students to experience a number of different activities in hopes that students will find some they can enjoy and continue doing outside their school day.

For three years Liberty was part of the Carol M. White Physical Education Program grant. This federal grant has provided Liberty with thousands of dollars of equipment that have been incorporated into Liberty’s already outstanding physical education program. These programs include a fitness class with Schwinn spinning cycles. Students also participate in the “Skate in School Program” sponsored by Rollerblade. The students take part in rollerblading around the bus loop/track as the grant included roller blades, safety pads and helmets. Students also have the opportunity to get a workout through “DDR – Dance, Dance Revolution” located in our PE fitness portable. The use of technology will also be a part of the program as students will be able to use pedometers and heart rate monitors to track their activity levels.

Liberty’s Physical Education department encourages everyone to make fitness and healthy nutritious habits a part of their lives.
