OCPS/LMS Attendance Policies

Regular attendance is a very important factor in your child’s success at school and is required by Florida law. Each parent and guardian of a child within compulsory attendance age is responsible for the child’s school attendance. Please encourage your child to be in school and on time each day. A student must be present at least half a day in order to be counted present for the day. Students may not participate in sports or other after-school events unless they have been present on the day of the event.

On a daily basis, student absences will be recorded as unexcused. Please send a note stating the valid reason for absence with your child when he/she returns to school. The note must be received in the grade level office within 24 hours of the child’s absence. Absences may be excused for the following reasons only:

  1. Personal illness or need for emergency medical attention
  2. Serious illness or death in the immediate family
  3. Recognized religious holidays observed by your faith
  4. Documented medical appointments
  5. Prearranged absences approved by an administrator.
