As we enter into the final days of school, we are amazed that the year is almost over and ending in a fashion like never before. Truly, this year will go down as one never to be forgotten. Students, please remember, you are truly missed and loved by your Liberty family. Feel free to reach out to any of the staff who are ready to help provide the needed guidance, instruction and direction you may need - staff email addresses.

Two weeks ago, Liberty celebrated all staff during Teacher Appreciation Week, so this edition of our The Patriot Page is dedicated to our staff. We truly thank you for all you do. Students, thank you for the wonderful well-wishes - teachers did read them; they were genuinely touched.

This week, Monday, May 18 and Tuesday, May 19 all 8th graders will be permitted to return to campus to retrieve any items they left behind in their lockers or perhaps in a teacher's class and to return library books or music instruments. This will take place in a Grab and Go format in the front of the school in the car line up. The hours are 9:30 - 1:30. Students will remain in their cars the entire time. Students will NOT be returning laptops at this time but will keep laptops over the summer. In addition, to honor our 8th graders, PTSA will have a special gift for 8th grade students for pick up.

On-going Reminders:
... Be in attendance - daily attendance is a mandate from the Department of Education and must be recorded daily.
... Be prepared to learn - Teachers are working hard to complete the curriculum for each grade level. This will help build upon your knowledge for next year.
... Be courteous - the digital platform is still class and we must respect all (teachers and students and ourselves)
... Complete your work - finish your work and submit in a timely manner. Grades will have an impact on the end of year grades.
... Follow the OCPS Code of Conduct - learning while at home does not remove the code of conduct, so please think before you act, post or speak.
... Laptop care - please remember to handle your laptops gently as a replacements are limited.

Please continue to monitor for COVID-19 updates following the district's social media or click on the health advisory link on the front page of www.ocps.net. Last, but not least, thank you to all our students, staff and parents for your flexibility to the Distance Learning challenge.

In Patriot Pride,

Meet One of Liberty's Super Heros!
Mrs. Sabater - Paraprofessional

Mrs. Sabater and her daughter donate their hair for cancer patients. "I trimmed my hair helping the cause of children with cancer. This is my second time donating my hair. The first time was in 2017 with my child and it was for the CAP Foundation [Fundacion Cap] in Puerto Rico which helps children with cancer. This 2020, I will send my hair to the same foundation." - Mrs. Sabater

Science: Project Lead the Way
Liberty's 3D Printers being used to help healthcare workers while the students have been away.

Mr. Krones, Liberty's Project Lead the Way Teacher, continues to use the PLTW lab's 3D printers during this period of distance learning. He has been using them to create strap holders that hold mask straps against the back of the head (below right) to relieve stress on the ears of nurses and doctors who are constantly wearing the masks.

PTSA

Hello Liberty Families!

We pray you and your family are staying safe, happy and healthy. Your Liberty PTSA board is working hard to keep things running as smoothly as possible during the stay at home order.

General Election Meeting
We are still working out how and when we will be holding our General Election meeting.  Florida PTA has given us the option to either have the meeting later in the year once the stay at home order has been lifted or host a Zoom meeting.  We will be discussing what option is best for Liberty. Please read all Memberhub emails for information to come.

8th Grade Gift
Your Liberty PTSA will be providing a gift to all our Liberty 8th grade students, Monday & Tuesday this week.

Please like us on Facebook to keep up with upcoming events: @libertymiddleschoolptsa

Please Consider Donating
Donating clothes and shoes to Liberty's recycling bin helps raise funds for the school. Thank you!

Student Tech Requests

If your students are having difficulties with your laptops, please remember to try the trouble shooting techniques first before putting in a tech request. Students may enter a tech request as studenttechrequest.ocps.net  In the description box, where you detail what is happening to your computer, please include your student number as well as a good contact number for your parent or guardian, with their name as well.
